Community food leaders celebrate What's Cooking Together?
On Monday, 12 July, ContinYou and our partners from the Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland Healthy Schools programmes held a celebration event at Gisborough Hall to say a big ‘thank you’ to our What’s Cooking Together? Community Food Leaders.
The Community Food Leaders have been delivering the What’s Cooking Together? programme for the last year, and it is their hard work that has made the project such a success.
Eighty people attended the celebration event at which local chef Steve Evans, who has been attending a cookery club at Bankfield Primary School with his daughter, gave a cookery demonstration. There were also fun, games and goodies for the Community Food Leaders.
Thanking the Community Food Leaders for all of their hard work, Emma Kerr, Project Manager for What’s Cooking Together?, said: ‘Hundreds of children and parents have enjoyed coming together to learn about healthy eating, trying healthy recipes and learning new skills. The Community Food Leaders – all of whom are volunteers from the local area – have delivered high-quality cookery sessions with limited budgets, proving that healthy eating can be fun and affordable. A big thank you goes out to all the leaders for their enthusiasm and motivation, which has made the project such a success’.
What’s Cooking Together? aims to give children and their families the knowledge and skills to enjoy planning, preparing and cooking cost-effective, tasty meals together and to promote healthier eating habits within their communities.
Children and parents across the Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland areas have attended practical cookery sessions in local primary schools and community settings.
What’s Cooking Together? has been funded with support from: Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland Healthy Schools; Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland NHS; and Redcar and Cleveland Extended Services.
